PG 2
Fitz and Tom standing by the Fort Snelling marker at the entrance.  Fort Snelling was built in 1820  to help protect the northwestern territories from Canadian and British encroachment.   Soldiers stationed at the fort took part in the Dakota War of 1862 which consisted of an armed conflict between the United States and several bands of Dakota (also known as the eastern 'Sioux'). It began on August 17, 1862.  The fort was used as an internment for the Dakota.
We arrived at the fort around Noon tn time to see the daily firing of the canon.  The man in blue answered questions about the fort and it's history.
